Supplies in Journey Kids

Have you ever thought about WHO puts together the supplies every week in Journey Kids?  Well, at first, I did it all.  (Not the right idea, and something I knew couldn’t last).  Before long we had some awesome volunteers step in and take over.  Now, as Journey Kids grows and we figure out the best fit for their leadership levels, they’re shifting how they volunteer.  With this, leaves some empty spots for others to step in and fill.  It can some days leave a pit in your stomach thinking, “well, who’s going to do it now?”  At other times it’s exciting to think of who God is going to use through these spots.  If we have the “do-ers” do everything in our ministry, 1 – it will burn them out, 2 – it will take away the joy of serving from someone who actually would be a great fit, 3 – it takes away from the area that they could be leading in that is the best fit for them.

With all of that to say, we’re having a “Summer Supply Party” ~ Wednesday, June 16th at 10am and inviting people to make a 1 time, 2 hour commitment to coming in next week where we’ll get all of our supplies in bins for the entire summer.  The people who currently are doing this will be there to show everyone else what to do, and how it looks.  We’re going to have some Brooklyn Bagels and make a late morning of it.  I think it will be fun!  Are you more of a behind the scenes kind of person that likes to connect with 1 or 2 others?  It takes a few hours/month or every other month to get the supplies in place. Have you seen the supply closet all labeled and ready to go? – (Thanks Selena and Haley!)  Come, stop by and join the fun!

Email me at virginiamae@gmail.com and let me know if you’re interested in checking it out!

If you’re not at The Journey or lead in another area, how do you help people connect with the right place to volunteer in your ministry?  We use the ideas of “replace yourself” and “personal invites” and “check it out for a day.”  What do you do?  Is it easy or hard to see/check out what you’re asking people to step in and do?  Is it easy for volunteers to invite others?  I’m not sure if we’re “there” yet, but working on it!
